Notre-Dame De Paris debuted in Paris in 1998, it is a musical based on the Victor Hugo book: The Huntchback Of Notre-Dame. It was written by the very prolific Quebec songwriter Luc Plamondon who had penned some of the most popular French songs through the 70′s, 80′s and 90′s. Luc Plamondon also wrote another very popular French musical: Starmania. Both shows were translated and played in London and NYC.
The original Huntchback in the musical was played by Garou, who I had never heard of before playing my brand new copy of the score shortly after it was released. His voice is different, full of emotions and gorgeous. And so is he.
While performing at a concert, Garou surprised his audience by inviting two other friends (also original performers from the show) to perform what is probably the best song to come out of Notre-Dame de Paris. You can see Luc Plamondon in the audience with sunglasses at the very beginning of the clip.
Enjoy this song where Quasimodo, Frollo and Captain Pheobus sing about the beauty and enchantment that is Esmeralda, each of them declaring their impossible love for the bohemian:
