I am also a huge fan of the comic, and I thought it was a faithful adaptation of the source. And, sorry to saw, I know the fanboys were upset about the lack of a giant squid, but the new ending is much better, while still being in the spirit of the original. And Jeffery Dean Morgan is yummy.
