What happens when an suicidal violent serial killer takes a blackmailer as an apprentice while manipulated by his own child who has inherited daddy’s taste for murders?
This little twisty cat and mouse chase gem happens:
Don’t be turned off by the choice of actors, they all redeem themselves from earlier bad movie choices they’ve made. William Hurt as the personification of Mr. Brooks’ addiction is perfectly cast.

I agree…I was surprised by how awesome Mr Brooks was, considering who’s in it and the lack of attention it received.
I think the casting director got really high and then started to call around for this movie. Not that that is a bad thing, just odd. Dane Cook as a bumbling serial killer wannabe? Demi Moore as a bitter cop looking to redeem her career (either in law enforcement or acting)? Finally Kevin Costner not doing something post-apocalyptic and has a degree of character depth? Odd, but brilliant.
And that’s two that William Hurt has done (History of Violence, Mr Brooks) that I’ve enjoyed since that embarrassing Lost in Space. Keep up the good work.
Unfortunately, people seem to associate Kevin Costner with bad movies… not always the case
