What a god awful mess. Not only is this show a mess but it is clear that the judges (and more to the point Mr. Arrogant Sleazy Pants - Lord(?) Webber) knew ahead of time who they wanted. A toss up, I'd say, between Janna and Marisa (saved twice now - even though her acting skills are right up there with Ben Affleck and Al Gore). Donna, the one with the most talent (but, not tiny enough, I guess) gets publicly skewered for being a Diva off stage - with no evidence what so ever. I thought we were judging based on demonstrated talent here. And now, Mr Webber is all aflutter and comes rushing into town - afraid that we might pick the wrong one - despite creating and manipulating the rules to all but ensure that he gets what he wants despite giving his audience the mistaken impression that they have any say at all. It would have been more honest and more entertaining, if they had simply allowed the judges to judge the contestants honestly and fairly and provide them with useful feedback, rather than use this tired and stupid audience voting approach. Their comments have become totally vacuous and untrustworthy, since they are clearly trying to manipulate the audience to pick who they want lest Mr. Webber and Mr. Mirvish become mightily peeved at them, should the wrong Maria win.

Pathetic, disgusting and embarassing. . .

Whoa! That was a pretty brutal critique session (on the Sunday July 6th show). You had Elaine, the voice coach basically issuing a public spanking to Donna on national TV by announcing that Donna is an ill-tempered diva given to using pathetic excuses. The smile just vanished right off her face. You could see she was anticipating compliments, and the shock, followed by mortification just chased across her face once she processed Elaine's comments.

And then Katie being told she was basically shallow (failed to show depth), "petulant", and her natural singing voice is one of a teenage whine.

Personally, the most dramatic moment of the night was wondering if anybody would burst out in tears.

Why aren't they having them do any acting exercises??? The Sound of Music is not an operetta; it is a book show. The Maria will be acting more than she sings, in terms of stage time. And I agree, being grinded against by the "acting coach" is not an acting audition. Let's see monologues, scenes, songs from TSOM and maybe even some improv exercises with the children cast as the Von Trapp children. THAT would let us pick our Maria.

And to top it off, they would rather run a commercial than show the end of the show... I raise my arms to the Musical heavens...

The set-up and pre-performance bit looked promising. The show itself is one of the worst things I've ever seen, completely amateurish and tacky -- embarrassing for all concerned. I gave up on it pretty quickly. My guess is the problem is partly the badly chosen songs. But honestly I can't envision any of these people as Maria. A sad day for reality television, and that's saying quite a bit. Ugh.

Last night seemed to be technically better, but the pauses between Gavin talking and cut away video seemed to be awkward still. Thankfully, the rest of the production seems to be coming along.

I agree about the music choices. Odd. But I doubt I'd pay $80 to see TSoM after hearing "Confidence" twice a week for 10 weeks.

My wife and I tune in now to see if each week can be worse than the preceeding one. Horrendous. Here's an idea: we are casting Maria. How about having the girls sing a song from...The Sound of Music? Maybe a scene or two. I know, I know.. having a legit soprano with a beautiful, specifically trained voice butcher Avril Lavigne is far more interesting...kinda like not being able to keep your eyes off an accident on the road. And let's host it with four of the creepiest people you can find in the world. Why can't the unfunny main host hold his head up? And why did they do Elaine's hair in a wind tunnel? Let's have that creepy acting coach guy (John...who?) who tells us his 'leading man resume' every 30 seconds, do another 'acting' exercise with the girls where he grinds his crotch into them like he did in the Maria school.

Creepy guy: "But why are you sticking your bum out when I hug you?"

Scared Maria Candidate: "Because, dude, you're a creepy stranger taking advantage of the situation...and I don't want to feel your man thing

Yeah, a real Stanislavsky that one.

And poor Simon. I can't make fun of him. I think there is actually something wrong with him...

You couldn't pay me enough to go see this show when it opens...sad really

As you said , major disappointment after the first 'doc' week. The results show was so bad I think even Gavin and the judges looked they wanted to crawl into a hole. It was sooooo embarassing. Do we really need this stupid fake suspense thing when announcing who are bottom two. A little more respect please. And then the bottom two had to show their stuff IN A DUET !!!!!!! for Gawd Sake. Lose the fake suspense part at the start and let them show their stuff SOLO - Maria a Maria. And no more So Long, Farewell. And who the hell is this annoyingly arrogant little Andrew Lloyd Webber prick ? Lose him too. They should have let the producers of J-Pod produce this thing. Now that would have been very cooooool.

Hmmm...I dunno. 90% of the girls reminded me of the lunch-time theatre arts students that I wanted to punch in the face on a daily basis during highschool...

Butchie: Take a listen to the new Kathy Griffin cd, she has the best bit about Marie Osmond...

Sean: I thought the first two shows were well edited, had funny moments, Webber made rubber faces at some of the singers and the host had "time" to rehearse his line more I think... but when you put them live, it's scary bad... for now.
